fun photo of the day

Last week Kayla's caregivers gave her this cool hairdo. The fun part was posing her for pictures. The not so fun part was taking out the tiny rubber bands without pulling out her hair - what a chore!

All in a day's work

Greg has such an interesting job. While most days I sit through the often mind-numbing four or so meetings per day and work on purging 100 emails from my inbox before I leave the office, Greg often gets to work on specialized assignments out in the field. It can be anything from serving arrest warrants, to training for tactical procedures like crowd control, to keeping security under control at large ceremonies like the Emmys. Yesterday Greg's unit actually got to provide security for the President as he visited Los Angeles at a private home in ritzy Bel Air.

Today he gets to hang out at the Kodak Theater and make sure the peace is kept during the democratic debate. Lucky guy.

One amazing party....

Yesterday we went to the grandest 1st birthday party ever...it was like a wedding! Miss Ella Townsend got to celebrate her big day in style. She is part Korean, and in the culture, you go big for the one year old celebration. Luckily, all of us got to partake in amazing authentic Korean food (and open bar at 2pm on a Sunday, NICE!). There was also a puppet show and mime for the kids, and awesome puppy-shaped floral centerpieces. Here is me and Kayla amongst the crowd of guests.
In Korean tradition, the year old baby selects certain items that represent how they will fare in the future, i.e. pencils represent educational achievement and money represents material success. Ella's spread was unbelievable!

Sadly, I didn't even get a single picture of the birthday girl. She was so busy greeting guests and taking part in the festivities. But, we sure had fun celebrating her in any case!

As you can see by the picture, Greg's good friend Adam had LOTS of fun. He didn't want to leave the party but it was clearly over when the waitstaff took all of our plates and drinks and started vaccuuming the ballroom. As a consolation, we let him take home the balloons and floral dog arrangement.

Meet Isabelle Attie!

On Saturday I had the honor of meeting little Isabelle Attie Lin, the new baby girl of one of my best friends, Joy. She is so beautiful and so tiny - it really made me nostalgic for the short while when Kayla was that small. Wait, Kayla was never that small! She was a whopping 8 pounds, 10 ounces!

Anyways, Attie was the picture perfect little newborn - sleeping a lot, eating a lot, and letting us hold her and take all the pictures we wanted of her while seemingly oblivious to the commotion.
Congratulations Joy and Anselm. Can't wait for our little girls to be friends!

Attie and Kayla seemed to enjoy playing together, don't you think?!

Welcome friends!

Inspired by the blogs of my Uncle Bill and my friend Joy, both of whose I enjoy reading several times a week, I thought I'd give one a shot too. I figure it would be a fun way to keep track of our busy lives, and more importantly, how quickly our little Kayla is growing! In fact it seems just yesterday she was a tiny little newborn (albeit one with a full head of hair...)

Today she is a happy, curious, sociable 7.5 month old ~ time flies when you're having fun!

Here's a recent picture of her and daddy. You can't see from the picture but she actually has two little bottom teeth coming in!

In fact, Kayla is about 20 pounds already and is very fond of eating, napping, and playtime. She loves weekends with her parents and grandparents, but she also loves going to the on-site daycare at Mattel. I'm very lucky to be able to spend time with her while driving to and from work, as well as visiting her on my lunch breaks.

Please visit our blog often! Hopefully we'll be posting regularly and documenting our comings and goings. Hope to see you along the way!
