Our trip to San Diego

A few days ago we decided to take a quick jaunt down to San Diego for a few days. We had a blast! We went to the San Diego Zoo, the Scripps Aquarium, and the Carlsbad Outlets.

Here's Kayla in the morning during our car ride to SD. She's still a bit sleepy...I love how she rests her foot on the seat so casually as she chills. We set up the portable DVD player with Dora and the Wiggles to keep her entertained.

I took this picture of the camels at the zoo because as the front one was 'using the bathroom' the one behind it came right up to it and started sniffing. Greg and I thought it was hilarious. Yes, we are both over 30 and still find this really funny.

Mommy and baby in matching shades. Except Kayla is way more trendy sportin' the white ones.

These are called "Singing Dogs". Thinking they were regular domestic dogs I asked Greg if we could get one as a companion to Stoli because they were soooo cute - then I read the fine print....they are endangered and there are only 500 in the world. Darn!

"How big is the animal?" we asked Kayla....This Big! She communicated with her little hands - can you see?

We got up close and personal with the animals in the kid's petting zoo.

What trip to the SD Zoo would be complete without a visit to the famous pandas? They are smaller than I imagined but every bit as adorable

This was the first time I can ever remember Kayla not taking her mid-day nap around 12. She was just too excited and wouldn't go down...until the end of the day when we were walking out around 4:30. She finally conked out! We ended up walking around the Balboa Park (where the zoo is located) for an hour afterwards so she could sleep. While Greg and I nearly froze to death I'm happy to report Kayla finally got her siesta.

The next day we were on to the aquarium! The visit brought back many fond memories I had as a kid, for we'd go at least once a year as a family to this small, quaint, aquarium run by UCSD.

My first encounter was with an unfriendly moray eel. I eventually stared him down though and he looked away.

Daddy and Kayla staring at the floor to ceiling aquarium filled with exotic fish, sharks, and coral.

Taking a closer look.....see me and Kayla on the bottom and the huge grouper fish on the top?

Let me out of the shark cage!

Kayla finally met someone her own size....

The breathtaking view from the aquarium. Notice Kayla's smile -this is her new look when we ask her to "show her teeth", a kind of half-sideways pirate grin.

Her absolute favorite was the tidepools.

Bye Bye San Diego!
